Grocery stores in Poland will trial an AI pricing system for reducing food waste - SecuritNEWS

In the United States alone, the slot xo Department of Agriculture estimates that 30 to 40 percent of food goes to landfill. It is both an environmental and economic concern, with food waste being one of the major causes of greenhouse gas emissions. A startup called Wasteless thinks machine learning can play a role in solving problems. The company has developed an AI-powered system to automatically cut down on perishable food prices as they spend more time on store shelves.

The closer a product is to the best day, the cheaper it will be to buy. And you will see everything listed on the price tags that grocers have on their shelves. After working in the system since 2016, Wasteless is going to trial the software with Metro, a 678 wholesale grocery company operating in 24 countries around the world. The two have plans to initially launch the technology in Metro's Makro stores in Poland before it can be used in other markets.

The Wasteless system claims that it will help reduce food waste in groceries by at least 40 percent over the next few years. The company believes it will be able to increase that number to 80 percent by refining its technology, as you might expect. As widespread and important as food waste, organizations are trying to do what they can to help. One of the more prominent teams in solving this problem, Alphabet moonshot's Project Delta, has just begun testing prototype computer vision systems for use in commercial kitchens.
